Soundsuit

Celestial Salt, The Good Hatchery, 2009

8 Hours Duration

The project sound suit was commissioned work for the Good Hatchery, a project based in County Offaly. Conway built a suite that could record, and loop collected sounds and would allow him to compose live from the landscape around the good hatchery. He simultaneously transmitted the live sounds over a small transmitter locally.

He wanted to generate a live action in nature that was somewhat rugged and feral. That could be heard and recorded, where the sounds would be as important as the visual. The performance took place during a spring afternoon and took up most of the day. The work was later published in a book titled Celestial Salt, which included other artists’ work from the project.
